23-29 May: spring harvest and walking mountain towns

Day 1: Pick up from Rome. Terrace lunch on arrival in Sulmona. Explore the town on foot, relax and settle in to your accommodation. Dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Terrace breakfast of homemade sourdough bread, local butter, preserves, eggs and spring fruit and vegetables, plus tea and coffee. Visit the produce markets in the picturesque town of Guardiagrele and try the famous Sise delle Monache. Next, a foraging experience with our friends at Casa Bocca di Valle, an incredible architect-designed 1970s wooden house in the Majella national park. Enjoy lunch including our foraged produce and local wines, cooked by Daniela and our Bocca di Valle hosts Luca and Silvia. Evening free.

Day 3: Terrace breakfast. Visit the historic medieval village of Pacentro (officially one of Italy’s most beautiful villages) for a cheesemaking workshop and lunch Alla Casa Vecchia. Wander around Pacentro including a visit to the historical castle and a coffee with the best views in Abruzzo. Aperitivo on the terrace showcasing local produce with Dani.

Day 4: Terrace breakfast. Walk through the beautiful town and castle of Rocca Calascio for breathtaking views of Gran Sasso. Long lunch at Rito Pane. Evening free.

Day 5: Attend the famous Sulmona produce markets. Cooking workshop and lunch with Daniela and her father Clemente. Afternoon free. Arrosticini dinner + local wine at Dani’s uncle’s house.

Day 6: Terrace breakfast. Rewilding experience and picnic lunch with Valerio Reale from Rewilding Apennines in Maiella National Park. Evening vineyard visit, wine tasting and dinner with Mariapaola of Azienda Agricola Di Cato, a local organic and natural winemaker.

Day 7: Final terrace breakfast and private transfer to Rome.

Booking notes

You can book either a single or double occupancy room at the beautiful Il Marchese del Grillo or La Dimora del Falconiere. Our daily breakfast for the whole group will be served on the terrace at Il Marchese del Grillo. La Dimora del Falconiere is an easy 3-5 minute walk away.

All bookings are subject to our terms and conditions. Please note that there are no refunds available. If you are unable to attend the tour, and you let us know earlier than 4 months from the tour start date, we can transfer your booking to someone who can take your place, or we can transfer you to a future tour, within two years (subject to availability, and to payment of any price difference). We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover you (and others under your booking) in case of change of plans or family/health emergencies.
