1-7 June: cooking classes, trabocco coast (2027)

Join Daniela Maiorano and her partner Bess Prescott for six nights and seven days exploring Daniela’s home region, Abruzzo, as she shares the best kept secrets of Sulmona and the surrounding mountains. Be immersed in local food, wine, language and culture in the green heart of Italy. Learn about the old artisanal traditions of Abruzzo and meet the people continuing these traditions.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE

Day 1: Pick up from Rome Tiburtina at midday. Terrace lunch on arrival in Sulmona. Explore the town on foot, relax and settle in to your accommodation. Dinner together at Ristorante Clemente.

Day 2: Terrace breakfast. Attend the famous Sulmona produce markets and meet our favourite local growers. Cooking class, lunch and local wine tasting with Daniela. Rewilding walk and talk around the beautiful town of Pettorano sul Gizio. Dinner and polenta cooking demonstration at Il Torchio.

Day 3: Breakfast at our favourite local cafe. Visit the medieval village of Pacentro for a cooking workshop and lunch Alla Casa Vecchia. Wander around Pacentro including a visit to the historical castle and a coffee with the best views in Abruzzo. Evening free.

Day 4: Breakfast at our favourite local cafe. Visit a seaside town and swim in the Adriatic Sea, followed by long lunch at our favourite trabocco. Evening free.

Day 5: Breakfast at our favourite local cafe. Attend the Sulmona produce markets to buy the freshest lunch ingredients. Cooking class, lunch and local wine tasting with Daniela. Evening free.

Day 6: Breakfast at our favourite local cafe. Free time to wander Sulmona and try a local restaurant for lunch. An afternoon of foraging with Alessandro di Tizio under the Velino mountains followed by dinner amongst the wheat fields with chef Francesco d’Alessandro.

Day 7: Terrace breakfast and private transfer to Rome Tiburtina, arriving midday.

Booking notes

You can book either a single or double occupancy room at the beautiful Il Marchese del Grillo or La Dimora del Falconiere. Our daily breakfast for the whole group will be served on the terrace at Il Marchese del Grillo. La Dimora del Falconiere is an easy 3-5 minute walk away.

All bookings are subject to our terms and conditions. Please note that there are no refunds available. If you are unable to attend the tour, and you let us know earlier than 4 months from the tour start date, you can transfer your booking to someone who can take your place, or we can transfer you to a future tour, within two years (subject to availability, and to payment of any price difference). We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover you (and others under your booking) in case of change of plans or family/health emergencies.
